On June 19, 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at the Port of Hamburg between Latvian and German partners, aiming to jointly advance digital solutions in port infrastructure, connectivity, and cybersecurity.
The memorandum was signed by: Freeport of Riga, Port of Hamburg, Flotte Hamburg GmbH & Co. KG, LVR Flote, Latvijas Mobilais Telefons SIA, and the Electronic Communications Office of Latvia (VASES). The signing took place in the presence of Jurgis Miezainis, Parliamentary Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Economics, and Dr. Melanie Leonhard, Hamburg’s Senator for Economy and Innovation.
Representing the International Transport Development Association (ITDA), Deniss Bickovs, CEO of ITDA, participated in the signing event and will be actively involved in the implementation of this initiative within the scope of Latvijas Mobilais Telefons SIA.
As part of this cooperation, two working groups have been established:
one focused on port connectivity and 5G network development,
the other on smart infrastructure, AI solutions, and cybersecurity.
The goal is to develop and implement proof-of-concept projects over the next two years to enhance port safety, efficiency, and competitiveness.
This initiative continues the strong cooperation between Riga and Hamburg and is being implemented under the Techritory platform, organized by the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) with support from the European Regional Development Fund.
